PAST EVENTS - Malta 2009

World Telemedia Malta 2009
26th April - 28th April 2009, The Corinthia St Georg & Marina Resort, Malta

As the sun set on the 42nd WT event, it was time to reflect on how truly resilient this dynamic sector has become. WT09 Malta offered proof that the Telemedia industry has not only adapted to the modern day challenges of content promotion, distribution and billing, but is pioneering  some killer mobile, fixed line, online and broadcasting applications. The show also focused on how new revenue streams and high value consumer profiles can be generated through audience participation and greater interaction with high tech consumers.

It’s clear that media, marketing and customer acquisition techniques are changing and World Telemedia provided over 300 international delegates with an opportunity to consider how the likes of Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Spotify, instant messaging, the iPhone, apps stores, mobile broadband, mobile Skype and alternative billing techniques are all changing the consumer’s behaviour.

Abandoning all formal presentations in favour of a “no nonsense” Q&A-based seminar programme, the sessions covered Social Networking & UGC, Interactive Media & Marketing, Content, Products & Services (Chat, Dating, Psychic, Horoscopes and Life Coaching), Billing and Working with Aggregators.

Malta also seemed an inspired choice with over 200 online gaming companies based on the island. This was therefore a great opportunity to bring these two sectors together in the Casino Lottery & Sports Book workshops on day 1. Clearly there are many synergies including a shared understanding of what it takes to successfully promote, bill and deliver remote digital services to a worldwide customer base. These sessions highlighted the exciting trading opportunities and the need to exchange ideas and technologies.

There was certainly a unanimous feeling of immense satisfaction from everyone that made the effort to travel to Malta which certainly signalled a welcome return to form for this invaluable and uniquely dedicated Telemedia industry forum. .
